Technology worker for Mennonite Central Committee in Lari, Kenya

• Time period: August 2009 to August 2011
• Description:
  I designed and implemented a lab set-up using open source software that would allow Kenyan schools to access the internet using simply a cellular modem. The goal was to make communication among schools easy, in order to break stereotypes of different people groups.
• Jobs:
  
  • Designed a lab using Ubuntu, and other GNU/Linux software (with a focus on debian)
  • Worked with Squid and Apt-cacher-ng software in order to design a server that would save bandwidth, and therefore money, for the schools
  • Found and tested new modems with GNU/Linux for deployment
  • Designed a simple install that would make production of the process easy
  • Set up a website that would allow students in various schools to communicate easily

  I created and designed a database for Cityonthego.org so that Downtown Goshen Inc. could better manage the companies they were working with.

  Collected soil samples for various farmers. The work involved selecting the best set of soil which would represent the general soil in the field. The soil was then packaged and sent to perform tests about the nutrients of the field.

• Description:
  Assisted Prof. John Ross Buschert, the leader of the Solar Panel Collective, analyze the best way to set up a solar panel to heat the water for the Recreation and Fitness Center on campus.
